Foundation installation in Elko NV - built for hard frosts and the soil on your lot
Planning a new house, addition or shop on your lot? We build the foundation to your plans so the walls above it stay square.

What goes into putting in a new foundation in Elko?
Foundation installation in Elko means building the footings, walls or slab that carry your house and protecting them from frost, so the ground can't push them around when it freezes and thaws.
Most folks who call us are building something new, a house, an addition or a shop, and they've got drawings in hand or on the way. The price turns on the size of the footprint, how deep the footing has to go, how much digging and hauling your lot needs and how much steel and concrete the plans call for, and the schedule turns on the permit, the weather and when the ground is ready. If you're leaning toward a slab, our slab foundation building page covers that one in more detail, and I'll write up the figure for your own lot after I've walked it.
How we handle foundation installation
Foundation work starts with your plans and your lot, so I ask for any drawings or soils report early and we build to what they call for. From there we lay out the footprint, dig to the depth the design needs and check the subgrade, the soil the footing sits on, because pouring on loose fill is how a foundation ends up settling a year later. Then we build the forms, set the rebar, the steel that holds the concrete together when the ground pushes on it, and pour. After that it cures, which is the wait while the concrete hardens and gains strength before anything gets built on top. We also look at where the water runs, so the finished grade sends it away from your walls instead of toward them. If a budget has to give somewhere, I'd rather it not be the digging and packing, because you can redo a floor but you can't easily redo the ground under a house.
Some jobs don't need a full foundation, and if your plans only call for concrete footings under a deck, a porch or the posts of a shop, we pour those on their own. When a commercial building goes in with parking beside it, we can take on the concrete parking lot building too, so one crew sets the grades and the water runs off both the same way.
Foundation and footing work in Elko
Elko's building code says a foundation has to be protected from frost in one of three ways. It can go below the local frost line, it can be built to a published standard, or it can sit on solid rock. Each one changes how the footing gets designed, so it's a fair question to ask which fits your lot. The City of Elko Building Department reviews the plans, and its residential checklist wants foundation plans that are properly signed and show the frost depth, the footing size and the foundation size. If your job needs a soils report, the city wants the written report from you or your agent when the permit application goes in, which is one more reason I ask for it early. We look into the permit during the estimate, pull it ourselves when the job calls for one and keep you posted on where it stands with the city.
Part of Elko County sits on expansive clay, the kind that swells when it's wet and shrinks as it dries, and that kind of movement is hard on a foundation, so when a soils report flags it we build to whatever the design calls for. We're based in Elko and the ground changes from one lot to the next on jobs around Elko and out in Spring Creek, so I'd rather know what's under your lot before I price the dig.
How foundation installation works
Call or send the form
Tell us what you're building and where, and send over any drawings or soils report you've got. We'll get back to you and set a time for me to come out.
I walk the lot with you
I look at the ground, the slope and where the water goes, and I ask how you'll use the building. Then I write up an estimate that lays out the dig, the forms, the steel and the concrete, so you can see where the money goes.
We handle permits and scheduling
Once you're ready, we sort out the permit side with the city and pick a pour date that suits the conditions. Cold snaps move dates around here, and I'd rather wait than pour into a freeze.
We dig, pour and hand off
Our crew digs, forms, sets the steel and pours, and then the concrete gets its cure time before framing goes on. When we're done, I'll tell you how to care for the new concrete and what to keep an eye on.

Get an estimate for your Elko foundation and footings
We reply to every call and form within one business day. I'll come out to your property, look over the lot and write up a free estimate, and you're under no obligation to book. If you have plans or a soils report, send them along and I'll go through them before I visit.
Questions before you book foundation installation
How deep does a foundation need to go in Elko?
Your footing goes as deep as frost protection calls for, and the most common way to get that is to go below the local frost line, which is one of the three ways the city accepts. Your signed plans show the frost depth, so we dig to what they say instead of guessing.
What is a frost protected shallow foundation, and can I use one?
It's a foundation that uses insulation to keep the soil under it warmer, and a national builder's guide says that can allow depths as shallow as 16 inches in almost all of the continental U.S. The same guide says it suits slab-on-grade homes on lots with moderate to low slopes, and that the slab version can go in with one pour, which speeds construction. If your designer draws one up, we'll build to those drawings.
Is a slab foundation a good choice for a house in Elko?
A slab can be a good fit, but you give up easy access to your pipes for it. Plumbing lines and some utilities may be buried under or inside the slab, so a leak down the road can mean cutting concrete to reach it. I'd talk that through with you before you settle on one.
What is the best way to handle a foundation pour in cold weather?
The best way is to plan for the cold before the truck shows up, because a national cold weather concreting guide counts it as cold weather conditions once the air drops, or is expected to drop, to 40°F while fresh concrete still needs protecting. Ask us how we'll handle it if the forecast dips that low, and we'll set the pour date with the weather in mind.
How do I reach the city about a foundation permit in Elko?
Call the city's building department with permit questions, and if you're not a licensed contractor, you can get to a permit through Residential Access on the city's permit portal using your address and parcel number. On jobs we build, we handle that side for you.
How much does foundation installation cost in Elko?
Your price comes from your plans and your lot, so the real number is the one I write up after walking the site. Size, footing depth, digging and hauling, and the steel in the design all move it, and a soils report that turns up clay can change the design itself. Call (775) 510-0139 and I'll come take a look.
Why Elko homeowners call Elko Concrete for foundation installation
I write every estimate myself
I come out to look at every job and write the estimate myself, and I'm on site with our crew while the work gets done. You're talking to the same person from the first walk-through to the last pour, so nothing gets lost along the way.
Years spent fixing failed concrete
Before I started Elko Concrete in 2023, I spent years doing upkeep for a property management company, patching sunken slabs and broken steps between tenants. That's where I learned what makes concrete fail, and it's why the ground under your foundation gets as much attention as the concrete on top.
Licensed and insured, easy to check
We're fully licensed and insured. The Nevada State Contractors Board lists A-9, Piers and Foundations, among its license classes and sets a limit on each license, the largest contract a contractor can take for one client on one site, so it's fair to ask any contractor whether theirs covers your foundation.
On a foundation, what matters most is the part you can't see once the house is up. Send us your plans or call (775) 510-0139, and we'll start there.
Other concrete work that goes with a foundation
Concrete footings
Building a deck, porch, carport or shop that only needs footings under the posts? We dig them deep enough for frost and set them where your plans say.
Concrete parking lot building
Putting up a shop or commercial building that needs parking beside it? We pour the lot so it drains away from the building and holds up to traffic.
Talk through your foundation and footings with us
Have your address, parcel number and any plans or soils report handy when you call (775) 510-0139, so I can see what the city will want before I come out.
